The kitchen of the house purchased in 2005 by the Grothé family desperately needed some love. The owners were tired of the yellowed wood cabinets and the sombre atmosphere and ready for a major change. The goal for this family of three, who adore entertaining, was to free up space so everyone could move around easily. There was no way they were going to cook in a separate room while everyone else was enjoying themselves!

The new open-concept space means that everyone can participate in the conversation while entertaining. The island, in the centre of the kitchen, serves many functions and keeps you in the middle of the party.
Along with the gorgeous kitchen island that is the focal point of the room, another highlight of this renovation is the hutch, a large glass cabinet displaying beautiful dishes and silverware, accentuated by the wood backdrop.
Equally impressive is the wooden beam that crosses the room in the same shade as the back of the cabinets, providing another visual thrill. Installing it required a modification of the designer’s original plans because of its larger-than-expected dimensions.
The homeowner also had the idea of a wood screen wall to separate the entryway from the living room and add a touch of style. Lastly, an old closet was transformed into a cute powder room, convenient for guests.
“Our renovations were done in 2020, so we were unable to entertain in our new space for a long time. When Christmas was cancelled in 2021, we were so disappointed. In 2022, we finally celebrated in our home and took full advantage of it!”
